Evergreen Elementary School is a vibrant, diverse community of learners in Diamond Bar. It is one of nine Walnut Valley Unified School District elementary schools. It is known for innovative programs, engaged students, high academic achievement, dedicated, caring staff, and strong community support. Diversity is high, and our 728 students in Transitional Kindergarten-5th grade classrooms include two full-day Special Education Autism Spectrum Disorders - Intermediate classes, 66.2% Asian, 19.7% Hispanic, 5.0% White, 3.4% Filipino, 0.9% African American, .2% Pacific Islander, 4.7% Multi-Ethnic, 7% Students with Disabilities, 25% Socioeconomically Disadvantaged, and 20% English Learners.
Parents are encouraged to participate in their child's learning environment by volunteering in the classroom, participating in a decision-making group, or attending school events. Parents and the community are very supportive of the education program at Evergreen Elementary School. The Community Club has made generous contributions of time and money to numerous programs and activities. Parents stay informed on upcoming events and school activities through Parent Square, the school marquee, e-newsletters, flyers, Class Dojo, School's Instagram, the school website, and bulletin boards. Parents may volunteer in the classroom and attend schoolwide events held throughout the school year, such as Field Trip Chaperone, Classroom Helper, Evergreen Community Club Parent Workshop Committees: English Learner Advisory Council, School Site Council, Evergreen Community Club, and School Activities such as Welcome Back, Principal Meetings, Principal Coffee Chats, Parent Educational Nights (reading and writing) Back to School Night, Family Fun Night, Student Orientation for Middle School, Student Grade Level Performances, Open House Science Fair, Poetry Festival Fun Run, and the Talent Show.
The school staff demonstrates its strong commitment to the success of each student by providing a differentiated instructional program for all students. This is accomplished through ongoing assessment, individual and small group instructional settings, and the use of research-based materials, technology, leveled readers, and other programs. Students with difficulty in academics, behavior, or social interactions receive assistance through our Student Success Team, Elementary Learning Specialist, student guidance program, special education team, or intervention programs.
